An outdoor city

Do you know the ancient face of Alicante? If not, from Hotel Alamo we invite you to travel back in time to learn about the years of history of this city. Would you like?

Alicante is a city with centuries of history. All cultures that have come to our shores, from prehistory to the modern era, have left their importance in our territory. Despite this, the character of the port city and, for many centuries, military square has caused that on its walls, castles, buildings and inhabitants were numerous attacks with the consequent destruction.

The “Guerra of the Pedros’ in the middle ages, left uninhabited the town of Alicante. The bombing of the French Navy in 1961, had terrible effects on our city. One of the more apparent, was the disappearance of most of the buildings that today we could be considered “historic”.

Therefore, that urban archaeology, so necessary in all the historical cities, becomes in Alicante, many times, the only possibility of knowing how was our city, at least with prior to the 18th century. The fire in the Municipal Archives with its rich collection of documents in the aforementioned French bombardment makes, even more, essential work of urban archaeology in Alicante.

This is precisely what has happened in the building that occupies us. The “lost city” has been found. The remains that have been found and preserved in part, cover from the Middle Ages until the modern era.
